Hello everyone. I plan to write in more detail about my situation and my interaction with Apple but I thought it better to get my overall story out there sooner. Here it is, in basic timeline format. (I hope to update this with more complete dates. Most of my records are in my Macbook which is on vacation in Nashville at the Apple depot):
| Late May 2006 | I order a white Macbook 2.0GHZ 1GB RAM 120GB HD direct from Apple online to replace my old computer (which is more or less on life support after years of faithful service). |
| The computer arrives and the 'Q' button falls off immedietly after taking it out of the box. It will not re-attach properly and the Portland, OR Apple store declares it DOA. I make several calls to Apple to initiate the DOA process, get my Fedex label, go to the Fedex store and notify Apple that the computer has been sent so that they will start the order for a new one | |
| Early June | The new Macbook arrives. Hooray! I spend at least 2 hours on hold and on the phone with AppleCare getting them to transfer my AppleCare over to the replacement computer from the DOA one. Apple should have done this automatically. I go to New York. |
| Early-Mid June | My trackpad button displays the sticky trackpad issue. I continue using the computer and eventually discover that this is a widespread issue and the annoyance merits a call to Apple. |
| July 1st | I call Apple tech support to report the issue. The local Apple store (which is now their flagship 5th Ave New York Store) is unable to fix the issue in-store. Apple estimates 7 business days for the mail-in repair. I decide to wait for the repair as I cannot afford to be without the computer at this time. |
| September | My Macbook starts to shut down randomly as described by others with "RSS" or random shutdown syndrome. I am writing PHP\Javascript and doing other programming to improve my portfolio in preparation for interviews for web development positions. I expect to start work soon and while I need the computer to do programming, it has to be reliable once I get a job. I call Apple to initiate the repair. By this time the Macbook also has started to show minor discoloration. Begin an outrageous amount of time on hold followed by being without my recently purchased computer. |
There's already more to this story so stay tuned! I'll be adding to it soon as I'm currently extremely busy!
This sounds extremely
